Logano’s Glove Gate
At Las Vegas Motor Speedway, NASCAR officials showcased examples of aerodynamic rule infractions. Joey Logano’s non-compliant gloves and Stewart-Haas Racing’s roof rails were on display. Logano’s gloves, not meeting safety standards, featured webbed fabric, while the roof rails violated CAD specs.
Logano faced a $10,000 fine and in-race penalties. Logano acknowledged his role in the violation but rebounded with approved gloves to secure pole position. Despite safety concerns, Logano maintained that he felt secure during the incident. He emphasized that he did not suggest or make the gloves, stating that he didn’t sew, but that he accepted partial blame for agreeing to wear them. He also acknowledged how embarrassing the situation was and that bending the rules hadn’t been worth it because the violation didn’t significantly improve performance
Despite lacking any proof, Lajoie took the opportunity to offer up that he was sure Penske had done testing on the gloves, even though Roger Penske himself has already expressed his intense disappointment with the team. Meanwhile, most drivers downplayed the issue, agreeing with Logano and stating that the gloves offered a minimal advantage in performance. Meanwhile, SHR’s penalty stemmed from raised roof rails, not meeting CAD specifications.
NASCAR officials stressed safety and compliance, highlighting the importance of adhering to regulations.
