Trackhouse secures deal with Shane van Gisbergen

Trackhouse Racing has secured a deal with Shane van Gisbergen for the 2024 season, enabling him to participate in various races across NASCAR’s three national series. At 34 years old, the Auckland, New Zealand native is set to take part in select events in the Cup, Xfinity, and Craftsman Truck Series, alongside additional late models and other racing opportunities.

Van Gisbergen expressed his enthusiasm for this new chapter in his career, acknowledging his accomplishments in Australia while also looking forward to the new opportunities ahead. This partnership fortifies the existing relationship between the driver and Trackhouse Racing, which was initially established through the Project 91 initiative this season. This particular initiative aims to bring global motorsports stars to the forefront, and van Gisbergen certainly made an impact by clinching a victory in his first Cup Series start during the inaugural Chicago Street Race.

A celebrated figure in the Supercars Tour with three championships to his name, van Gisbergen is part of the Triple Eight Race Engineering team, racing under the Red Bull Ampol Racing brand. The team has expressed their support for his NASCAR ambitions, granting him release from his contract to pursue this new endeavor.

Van Gisbergen’s NASCAR journey includes an additional Cup Series appearance, resulting in a 10th-place finish at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course last month. This performance followed his inaugural oval-track start, where he finished 19th in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park, driving for Niece Motorsports.

Justin Marks, the founder of Trackhouse Racing, spoke about the exciting challenge that lies ahead for van Gisbergen, highlighting his exceptional driving skills. The 2024 season is set to be a period of adjustment for the driver, acquainting him with oval-track racing, superspeedways, and 1.5-mile tracks—experiences that are new in his racing career. Despite the anticipated learning curve, Marks is optimistic about Van Gisbergen’s potential to excel.

Since its inception in 2022, Trackhouse’s Project 91 has completed four Cup Series starts, featuring van Gisbergen in two of those races and former Formula 1 champion Kimi Räikkönen in the initial two.
