Tire Options for Richmond Raceway
During race weekend at Richmond Raceway on August 10-11, teams will receive three sets of ‘option’ tires in addition to the standard ‘prime’ Goodyear racing tires. These include one set for practice and two for the race.
Similar to the setup at the NASCAR All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro Speedway, the prime tires will feature yellow lettering, while the option tires will be identified by red lettering. The option tires are constructed from the same compound used for oval wet weather tires.
The tire allocation for the weekend is as follows:
- Two sets for practice, comprising one prime and one option tire each.
- For qualifying, teams must use a prime set, which will then be included in their race tire allotment.
- Eight sets of stickers for the race, consisting of six prime and two option sets.
During the race, NASCAR will not enforce specific timing for tire usage among teams, but all four tires on each car must be of the same type at all times.
To provide teams and drivers with more on-track opportunities, NASCAR will modify the practice format for Richmond. There will be a single 45-minute practice session held on Saturday, just before the NASCAR Cup Series qualifying session.
