Martin Truex Jr resigns with JGR

Martin Truex Jr. has decided to continue his career with Joe Gibbs Racing, finalizing an agreement to remain in the #19 for the Cup Series in 2024.

After qualifying in fifth place for the FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday, the leader in Cup Series points made his decision public.

Truex mentioned that not all of his colleagues might be aware of his decision yet.

Christopher Bell, a teammate of Truex, secured the pole position and only learned about Truex’s decision earlier on Saturday.

Bell expressed his belief that Truex, who is 43 years old, still has a few more victories in him and admitted he was surprised that Truex did not choose to retire this year.

Truex has maintained a competitive edge this season, claiming victory three times. Similar to the previous year, Truex took his time deliberating his future, even considering retirement at one point.

He eventually concluded that it didn’t feel right to stop racing just yet and was eager to continue with what they were achieving. With that in mind, he expressed his excitement about both the current season and the next.

Joe Gibbs, 82, light-heartedly encouraged Truex to make his decision sooner this summer.

Gibbs recalled telling Truex that he was in the midst of making a decision every year, highlighting the perks of his career, such as earning well while enjoying himself and driving race cars, as he tried to persuade Truex to continue racing.
