Kyle Larson is aiming for a rare feat when the NASCAR Cup Series heads to Bristol Motor Speedway for the Food City 500 weekend, April 11-13. This means running 1,050 laps over the course of the weekend. The Hendrick Motorsports driver will compete in all three of NASCAR’s top series at Bristol, attempting to complete the elusive triple—a challenge that only one driver has conquered in NASCAR history: Kyle Busch.
Busch first achieved the weekend sweep in 2010 and repeated the feat in 2017, both at Bristol. NASCAR legend Darrell Waltrip, a 12-time winner at the track, has called it one of the greatest accomplishments he has ever witnessed in the sport.
Larson’s Bristol Race Schedule
The action begins on Friday, April 11, when Larson takes the wheel of the No. 07 HendrickCars.com Chevrolet Silverado in the WEATHER GUARD Truck Race, marking only his second Truck Series start at Bristol. His previous appearance was in the 2021 Pinty’s Truck Race on Dirt. The 250-lap race is set to start at 7:30 p.m.
On Saturday, April 12, Larson will pilot the No. 17 HendrickCars.com Camaro in the SciAps 300 Xfinity Series race at 5 p.m. He previously won at Bristol in the Xfinity Series, taking the checkered flag in the 2018 Food City 300.
The weekend culminates with the Food City 500 on Sunday, April 13, where Larson will drive his familiar No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet. He already has two Bristol Cup Series victories, both coming in the Bass Pro Shops Night Race. His most recent triumph in September saw him dominate, leading 462 laps and setting a record for the fastest race time at Bristol, breaking a mark held since 1971.
Chasing Bristol History
If Larson secures a Truck Series victory, he will join an elite group of drivers who have won races at Bristol in all three of NASCAR’s top series. That list includes Mark Martin, Carl Edwards, Kevin Harvick, Brad Keselowski, Kyle Busch, and Joey Logano.
Bristol Motor Speedway president and general manager Jerry Caldwell expressed excitement about Larson’s challenge.
“He is such a natural talent and one of the most popular drivers in the Cup Series, so we are thrilled to see him go for the trifecta at Bristol,” Caldwell said. “Who knows what will happen, but he clearly has the skills and talent to do it. We love seeing drivers take on the high banks in different cars and different series. He has certainly proved he knows his way around the track and that he can win in anything, so it will be fun and exciting for everyone to watch.”
