Josh Berry Secures Cup Ride at SHR

Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) has announced that Josh Berry has secured a cup ride, taking over the No. 4 Ford and replacing the retiring Kevin Harvick starting in 2024. Crew chief Rodney Childers will continue his role. Berry expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, acknowledging support from key figures at SHR and his mentor, Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Berry, 32, from Hendersonville, Tennessee, was identified as a strong candidate for the No. 4 car early on, with SHR co-owner Tony Stewart emphasizing that he was the right fit for the team. Harvick, with a storied career including 60 Cup wins, initiated the conversation with Earnhardt about Berry’s potential, setting the wheels in motion for this opportunity.

First learning of SHR’s interest in January, Berry had discussions with various team members, including Brian McKinley, Stewart, and Greg Zipadelli. Stewart highlighted Berry’s merit as a key factor in the decision, stating that sponsorship for the No. 4 car in 2024 remains open and emphasizing the team’s commitment to talent over financial backing.

Earnhardt, who has supported Berry’s career from the start, expressed pride at seeing him secure a top-tier Cup Series ride. Berry’s journey to this point includes significant achievements in the Xfinity Series, showcasing his skill and determination.

As Berry prepares to transition to the Cup Series, he acknowledges the challenges ahead but expresses enthusiasm for the support and guidance he will receive from the SHR team and Earnhardt. Meanwhile, he remains focused on his current commitments in the Xfinity Series, ready to embrace the work and challenges that lie ahead.
