Hamlin Claims Victory in Rescheduled Busch Light Clash

Due to an unfavorable weather forecast, the Busch Light Clash at The Coliseum took place a day earlier than scheduled. The decision to move the race proved provident, avoiding potential disruptions from predicted heavy rain.

Denny Hamlin showed an impressive pace during practice and managed to secure pole position during the modified qualifying session. Though he lost the lead and fell back in the Top 10 during the mid-way point of the race, he strategically seized the lead on an overtime restart at Lap 141. The veteran driver skillfully navigated chaos in the closing laps to claim victory. Hamlin’s win marked his fourth victory in the season-opening exhibition race, his first at the L.A. Coliseum.

Kyle Busch, the runner-up, reflected on the race’s dynamics, acknowledging the challenges posed by adjustments made throughout.

A notable highlight came from 2023 Cup Series champion Ryan Blaney, who staged a remarkable comeback from the rear of the field to secure the third position. The top 10 finishers included Joey Logano, Kyle Larson, Alex Bowman, Chase Briscoe, Brad Keselowski, Martin Truex Jr., and William Byron.

After the checkered flag, sights turned to the upcoming Daytona 500 on Sunday, Feb. 18, marking the commencement of the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series regular season.
