Denny Hamlin extends contract at JGR

Denny Hamlin has confirmed that he will maintain his position at Joe Gibbs Racing, while his 23XI Racing team, which he co-owns with NBA icon Michael Jordan, will also prolong its partnership with Toyota. This news comes as a result of contract extensions that were formally declared on Monday.

In the past month, Hamlin shared that he reached an agreement with Joe Gibbs Racing earlier in the year. However, since he is a co-owner of 23XI Racing, discussions to prolong both their contract with Toyota and their technical alliance with JGR extended well into the summer months.

Before any of the agreements could be finalized and signed, all parties had to be on the same page. This is because Hamlin’s role as a driver for Toyota was incompatible with owning a car from a rival manufacturer.

In a news release from Joe Gibbs Racing, Hamlin expressed his long-standing connection with the team, highlighting a relationship that has spanned nearly two decades. He emphasized the significant accomplishments they have achieved together and expressed enthusiasm about shifting the focus to pursuing a championship.

The specific details of the contract extensions were not disclosed.

Later in the evening, during his “Actions Detrimental” podcast, Hamlin confirmed that 23XI Racing would be continuing its association with Toyota moving forward. He assured the audience there wouldn’t be any major changes and mentioned that these deals solidify the existing partnerships.
