A Street Race in San Diego is close to being Finalized

NASCAR is working toward finalizing a deal to bring a street course race to the San Diego area in 2025, according to multiple industry sources who spoke with The Athletic. If completed, the deal would mark the sport’s return to the Southern California market after a brief absence.

While no official agreement has been reached yet, discussions between NASCAR and the city of San Diego are ongoing. Sources suggest that a finalized deal is likely, with a tentative announcement expected next month.

Both NASCAR and Sports San Diego, the city’s sports tourism commission, declined to comment on the current status of negotiations.

Adding a San Diego street race would help NASCAR fulfill its long-stated goal of re-establishing a consistent West Coast presence. It would also bring points racing back to Southern California for the first time since California Speedway in Fontana was shuttered indefinitely in 2023.

Although the Cup Series held exhibition events at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum from 2022–2024, the San Diego street course would be the first official points race in the region in two years.
