Petty Family – Grand Marshals for Coke Zero Sugar 400

Petty Family - Grand Marshals at Coke Zero Sugar 400

The Petty family is set to give the command ahead of the second-to-last race of the regular season at Daytona International Speedway, calling for drivers to start their engines before the Coke Zero Sugar 400 on Saturday, Aug. 24.

The “King” himself, Hall of Famer Richard Petty, will say some of the most famous words in motorsports alongside his son Kyle Petty, and his nephews Ritchie, Timmy and Mark Petty, the sons of his brother, Hall of Famer Maurice Petty.

“As we continue to celebrate one of NASCAR’s greatest legacies, we’re thrilled to welcome the Petty family to help us get the Coke Zero Sugar 400 started,” said Daytona International Speedway President Frank Kelleher. “Our history here at Daytona International Speedway and NASCAR goes hand-in-hand with the Petty family’s history, beginning when Lee won the very first DAYTONA 500 in 1959. With all the significant racing moments that came from their family in the years to follow, we’re honored to have the Pettys return to Daytona as our Grand Marshals.”

2024 marks 75 years of the Petty family in NASCAR, a legacy that began with Hall of Famer Lee Petty, passed down to his sons Richard and Maurice, then on to their sons Kyle, Ritchie, Timmy and Mark. Kyle’s son, Adam would become the first fourth generation NASCAR Cup Series driver. The Pettys have been celebrated across every track at which NASCAR has raced so far this season, honoring 75 years of history.

Kyle Petty previously competed in what’s now known as the NASCAR Cup Series, capturing eight wins throughout his career. He serves as a NASCAR analyst on NBC and is also a founding member of the Coca-Cola Racing Family.

Lee Petty holds the honor of winning the inaugural DAYTONA 500, while Richard Petty currently holds the record for most wins at the historic superspeedway. With seven DAYTONA 500 titles and 10 overall victories, Richard is the undisputed King of racing at Daytona International Speedway. Maurice Petty has eight DAYTONA 500 wins as an engine builder.

Earlier this year, the World Center of Racing became the first track to display the King’s Hat exhibit, a statue shaped like Richard Petty’s famous cowboy hat, detailing the history of the Pettys at Daytona and across NASCAR.

Fans can see the King’s Hat and much more during the upcoming NASCAR race weekend at Daytona International Speedway, featuring the NASCAR Xfinity Series Wawa 250 Powered by Coca Cola on Friday, Aug. 23.

Then, on Saturday, Aug. 24, just after a pre-race show from Lit that’s guaranteed to rock, the Pettys will give the command ahead of the NASCAR Cup Series Coke Zero Sugar 400, just before drivers battle it out on the 2.5-mile trioval, vying for those final Playoffs spots in the penultimate race of the 2024 NASCAR regular season.
