Red Bull Scores 1-2 Finish in Imola, Ferrari Struggles in Front of the Tifosi

LIGHTS OUT: Red Bull’s Max Verstappen secured his pole-position starting spot in the sprint qualifying session, with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc starting in P2. Verstappen got a great start, as did his teammate, Sergio Perez who started 3rd and jumped to 2nd as Leclerc slipped back to 4th.

SAFETY CAR – LAP 1: Heading into Turn 3, the McLaren of Daniel Ricciardo made contact with the Ferrari of Carlos Sainz which caused the latter to spin into the gravel trap. Sainz retired from the race while Ricciardo pitted and fell to 18th place.

LAP 7: Fernando Alonso headed to the pitlane and retired from the race with damage to the side pod engine cover of his Alpine. Alonso sustained the injury after making contact with Mick Schumacher on the opening lap.

LAP 18: Over the course of two laps, the entire field came down the pit lane to change from the intermediate wet tire to the medium slicks.

LAP 25: The double yellow flags were waved in sector 2 for the Haas of Mick Schumacher, who overshot the chicane and spun by himself. Schumacher corrected and continued racing.

LAP 53: After pitting for soft tires and pushing hard to try overtaking Sergio Perez, Leclerc spun and tapped the wall at Variante Alta. This caused him to pit for another set of tires and a new front wing, falling to P9 with just 10 laps remaining.
