Located just 45 minutes north of Toronto lies Goodwood Kartways, a sweet go-kart facility that provides fun for the whole family. The track is 1.2 kilometres in length with a great layout that features 10 turns.
Goodwood Kartways has been operational for nearly 40 years, making it one of the oldest karting facilities in North America. Over the years, not only has it provided top-notch entertainment for casual visitors, the track impressively has been the starting point for Canadian racing stars like Paul Tracy, Ron Fellows, and Scott Goodyear.
Despite its age, the track is anything but old, with a 2009 expansion and a repave that improved ride quality and safety. Speaking from experience, our review crew felt very safe driving the public karts. They had the karts pinned while taking corners sharply and not once did they feel as though they would spin out.
The go-karts offered to the general public are incredibly easy to steer and brake. The gas pedal; however, took a little more effort as the reviewers instinctually pushed harder in search of more speed. But the fact was, it just wasn’t to be considering the Goodwood karts are governed at 36 km/h in accordance with facility regulations. This is totally understandable, and even commendable, considering safety comes first with the number of small children on the track. As a matter of fact, we highly recommend Goodwood if you have small children that are determined to drive by themselves – you’ll have no need to worry.
For teens and adults, however, that are looking for more of a thrill with a competitive race, Goodwood Kartways has you covered, offering an ‘Arrive and Drive’ program that runs from April to October and gives members a chance to race in a series that is divided up by age. For the price of membership, drivers get a kart that is capable of speeds up to 75 km/h, a mechanic, helmet, racing suit, training, license, and covers any damages to the kart. The program runs bi-weekly and allows for drivers to show up before the race for qualifying and extra practice time. Drivers can choose their own schedules to race, and compete for a scholarship to race in the Toronto Racing Association of Karters series.
The Goodwood track even features a raised Winner’s Stage, decked out with checkered flags, on which drivers assemble to celebrate their Top 3 Finish and have their picture taken. All things considered, Goodwood provides an excellent starting ground for anyone searching for a way to get into the world of motorsports.
Whether you are looking for a weekend activity with the family, a team building event for your company, a unique birthday party for your kids, or a place to race like a pro, we definitely recommend Goodwood Kartways.
With a shady picnic area for spectators and group events, a snack bar, a series for professional drivers, as well as public karts, Goodwood has everything to make your karting experience unforgettable.
